1964 — 1985 The Workshop
The Beginning
AYVANSARAY, ISTANBUL 1964

The Beginning

An eleven-year-old leaves Kastamonu for a boatyard in Ayvansaray and asks to be taught. Twelve years of apprenticeship later, Ramazan Mengi opens a workshop of his own.

MUZAFFER YAY · FOREMAN 1978

A Second Pair of Hands

Muzaffer Yay joins as foreman. The workshop gains the discipline it had been short of, and stops being one man's trade.

Tuzla
RELOCATION · BY DECREE 1983

Tuzla

A state resolution moves the yachting trade out of the city. The workshop goes with it, to a stretch of Tuzla waterfront it has not left since.

Eleven, Again
HÜSEYIN MENGI · APPRENTICE 1983

Eleven, Again

The founder's elder son starts where his father started, at exactly the age his father started. Nobody in this family has been given a shortcut.

1986 — 2005 The Yard
The First Hundred
100 BOATS · SEVEN YEARS 1986

The First Hundred

One hundred fishing and rowing boats in seven years — then the first commissions over twenty metres, and the workshop stops being a workshop.

The Longest Gulet Afloat
NB6 · 27.5 METRES 1987

The Longest Gulet Afloat

Drawn, built and delivered inside twelve months. The day she launched, no gulet in the country was longer.

Over Thirty Metres
MEGA YACHTS · IN-HOUSE 1989

Over Thirty Metres

Mega yachts, designed and engineered by the yard's own team. The drawing board was never outsourced then. It still isn't.

36 METRES · SAIL 1992

Çağlar

Thirty-six metres of sail meets the water at Tuzla — the longest sailing yacht in Turkey at the time.

The Wheel Changes Hands
HÜSEYIN MENGI · CEO 1996

The Wheel Changes Hands

Thirteen years on the floor, then the office. Every decision made here since has been made by someone who has built one.

Mustafa Mengi
PARTNER 1998

Mustafa Mengi

The junior son joins as a partner, and brings the appetite for high-end motor yachts with him.

2006 — 2019 The Shipyard
Steel
FIRST STEEL CONTRACT 2006

Steel

The first steel superyacht contract. New material, new class regime — same yard, same people.

Gweilo
42 METRES · SCHOONER 2008

Gweilo

A two-masted wooden schooner drawn by Dykstra & Partners and built in Tuzla. Classical lines, a long keel, and no hurry about her.

Serenity II
40 METRES · TRAWLER 2010

Serenity II

Forty metres that redrew the trawler. The exterior, by Endaze Design, became a reference for the type.

Expansion
19,365 M² ACQUIRED 2012

Expansion

Six sheds, two buildings and a shipyard land — bought outright, and laid out for yachts up to 130 metres.

Aquarius
45 M · 60 LITRES AN HOUR 2016

Aquarius

Laminated wooden epoxy, sixty litres an hour at 8.7 knots, 4,138 miles on a single fill. The widest range in her class, on the smallest tanks.

Thirty-Five Thousand Square Metres
CAPACITY DOUBLED 2020

Thirty-Five Thousand Square Metres

More hangars, modernised. New build and refit now run side by side, under the same roofs and the same foremen.

Virtus 53 XP
HYBRID · ICE CLASS 2022

Virtus 53 XP

Hybrid propulsion, ice-class capability and a touch-and-go helipad — an expedition yacht that argues with its own category.

NL 50+
WITH NUVOLARI LENARD 2023

NL 50+

A new line drawn with Nuvolari Lenard — the yard's first collaboration at that scale.

REFIT ENQUIRIES 2023

The Question Kept Coming

Enquiry after enquiry, for yachts this yard never built. The pattern was not a side effect. It was a business waiting to be named.

Reviva
